Green pool water
Result
The pool has overflowed its skimmer, so it stopped skimming
High confidence — the answers you gave point clearly at this one cause.
Once the water rises above the skimmer mouth the weir flap floats and the pool stops skimming its own surface. Leaves, pollen and oils sit there instead and feed the algae — and the rain has diluted the chlorine at the same time. Bring the level down first, then deal with the chemistry.
What to do
- 1
Bring the level back down to the middle of the skimmer mouth. If the multiport valve has a WASTE position, drain through it.
- 2
Net out the leaves and surface scum first, then empty the skimmer and pump baskets.
- 3
Brush the walls and floor, then shock with about 1.5 litres of 10% liquid chlorine per 10 m³ — slightly more than usual, because the rain diluted the stabiliser as well as the chlorine.
- 4
Run the pump continuously for 24 hours, then vacuum the residue out to WASTE.
- 5
Re-check pH once the water clears. Urban rain is acidic, and pH below 7.2 attacks the pool surface and the equipment.
