Green pool water

The salt cell stopped making chlorine — that is why it went green
High confidence — the answers you gave point clearly at this one cause.
A chlorinator showing a warning is a chlorinator that has stopped producing, and the pool goes green over the following few days. The warnings mean quite different things — and one of them is not about salt at all.
What to do
- 1
No Flow / Low Flow is not a salt problem — it means too little water is passing the sensor. Check the pump basket, the skimmer basket, the water level and the filter pressure first.
- 2
Low Salt: check the target printed on the unit itself — most sit between 3,000 and 4,000 ppm. Add no more than half the shortfall at a time, then run the pump for 24 hours before measuring again.
- 3
Broadcast the salt at the deep end and help it along with the brush. Never pour it into the skimmer — a slug of concentrated brine attacks the cell and the pump.
- 4
If the salt level is correct and it still reports Low Salt, the cell has usually reached the end of its life — three to seven years is normal. That is a parts job: talk to us.
- 5
While the unit is down, dose by hand to stop the algae spreading: about 1 litre of 10% liquid chlorine per 10 m³.
