Water quality

Cloudy or green water, pH, chlorine and balancing.

Clearing green pool waterGreen water is algae that took hold while the chlorine sat too low, so brush the pool, shock it and run the pump non-stop — it clears in 24 to 48 hours.

Ordered by what customers ask about most.

  • The water numbers to hold, and how to move them

Hold pH at 7.2–7.6 and free chlorine at 1–3 ppm, and always correct total alkalinity first — until it is right, pH will not stay where you put it.

  • Cloudy water that is still blue

Cloudy but still blue water is almost always filtration rather than chlorine, so clean the filter and run the pump 10 to 12 hours a day before you add anything to the water.

  • Identify a stain before you scrub it

Different stains need opposite treatments and the wrong one sets the mark permanently, so test it with a vitamin C tablet and a chlorine tablet to tell metal from organic from scale before you start.
