The counter-current unit feels weak

Lost thrust is nearly always air being mixed into the jet or a blocked intake rather than a tired motor, so close the air-mix control and clear the grille before anything else.

A counter-current unit draws through a large intake and pushes the water back out as a jet. If it cannot draw properly, the jet comes out foamy and immediately feels soft — even though the motor still sounds perfectly normal.

  1. Turn the air-mix control on the jet fully closed. Maximum thrust comes with no air at all.

  2. Switch the unit off, then run a hand over the intake grille under water.

  3. Clear any leaves, hair or fabric caught on it. Even half-covered, the intake costs a lot of thrust.

  4. Check the water level is at the middle of the skimmer. Too low and the jet pulls air down from the surface on its own.

  5. Look at the speed setting on the panel or the remote.

  6. If the remote will not take it to full, change its battery first — a common cause and the easiest to rule out.

  7. Clean the unit's own filter, if your model has one.

  8. Confirm the main pool pump is running normally. On shared installations a blocked main filter drags the jet down with it.
